There’s some exciting things happening this summer in the art world. A collection of new murals have begun forming downtown and one of them will be created by The SUMAC project. The SUMAC Project is a collaborative group of mural artists forming with the purpose of getting more murals going around Spokane. They were selected (unanimously) to be one of the groups to freshen up downtown Spokane with a new mural this summer and they have a really fun idea of how to involved the community.
This month they are accepting submissions from kids ages 6-10 to take part in the development of their mural! How fun! You can mail in your child’s submission or stop by Ink Artspace (228 West Sprague) this Saturday from 10 to noon to meet the artists and contribute a drawing in person.
Here’s the official info.
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS – (Kids ages 6-10)
The SUMAC Project (Spokane Urban Mural Artist Collaboration), a team of 5 local Spokane artists, will be painting murals under the Howard St. Underpass (between 1st and 2nd St.), late July – early August.
We would like to invite young artists from Spokane ages 6-10 to create art depicting what “Near Nature – Near Perfect” means to them. The artwork will be exhibited at Ink Art Space and in an online gallery once the murals are completed. The SUMAC team will be reinterpreting some of the pieces as inspiration and creating contemporary murals in their style celebrating the ideas of Spokane’s next generation.
Submissions will be accepted through the month of June and can be mailed to INK Art Space, 228 W Sprague Ave, Suite A, Spokane, WA. Please include the child’s name and last initial, age, and a parents email address so we can notify you of exhibit details.
There will also be a free drop in workshop Saturday June 7th from 10am to noon for kids ages 6-10 to create their submissions and meet members of the SUMAC Project.
