Ok hi I can barely keep up with all the new music coming out lately! I’m a little behind on a few of these but they still needed some love. If you’d rather just listen playlist style, head to this LINK and enjoy! Otherwise read on and get ready to dig deep.
Eliza Catastrophe – You LP
Songwriter, singer, musician Eliza Johnson had gone through several iterations of a band to represent her songs and has recently settled on going solo as Eliza Catastrophe. This new full length album is all her. It’s lo-fi quality boasts a self-produced, self-recorded, self-mixed energy which matches Eliza’s confident independence as a songwriter. Her music is wholly hers with it’s unique personality and unique influences.
Lavoy – “Cursing the Curses”
Lavoy recently went through a lineup change when Sean Riley, their guitarist decided to move on. Lavoy has since proceeded as a four piece. They released this new track recently showcases the new iteration of the lineup. It’s dreamy and synthy and I love it.
DJ Spicy Ketchup – “Overdrive”
Darby Meegan and T.S The Solution are on a war path of creativity and the aftermath is new music. Darby is “DJ Spicy Ketchup” and he’s also been collaborating with local hip hop artist T.S on all of his new tracks. Definitely keep tabs on these two. Separately and together they are in a really cool experimental and forward moving phase. Check out Spicy Ketchup’s new song below.
Mountains In The Sea – “Higher”
Mountains In The Sea the husband and wife collaboration of Phil and Angela Lamb. It’s a pop exploration with electronic beats, guitar riffs and Angela’s sweet voice skating above it all. With this new track they’ve achieved the sound they set out to deliver with this project. Catchy, driving and definitely playlist worthy.
Mall Daze – “Already Gone”
Mall Daze is a sneaky little project by lead singer Tyrell of local indie band Lavoy. He says Mall Daze “is a project I recently started to filter through some of the tunes that don’t fit into the Lavoy Music narrative.” It’s similar to Lavoy but a little more sparse and spacey with that same driving energy.
Last Name Opus – “Two Weeks Two Months”
Ok, the Lavoy boys have been busy. This new track comes from Kipp Riley, the drummer of Lavoy. I love when people split off and do solo side projects. You get to see a little bit of what each individual adds to the whole. This instrumental track almost sounds like a Lavoy song simplified onto one classic analog organ hooked up to a loop station. As each layer adds it builds into a full on symphony of droning sounds over a simple keyboard generated beat.
Uh Oh and the Oh Wells – Self Titled LP
This band came out of nowhere for me. I’ve never really seen their name on any local bills but here they are with a rad full length EP (technically it came out in October). It’s kinda twangy, garagey and definitely a little Beatles influenced. It’s REALLY good.
Kevin Brown – Heroes and Sparrows LP
Kevin Brown is a leader in the americana scene in Spokane. He books the Bluewaters Bluegrass Festival in the summers in Medical Lake and plays regularly with his band Big Red Barn. His new LP is a lovely release of original country/bluegrass tunes. The production is impeccable and the performances are exactly what I would expect from local players from this corner of the scene…polished and impressive.
