Music video Jams started last year. Myself, Juan Mas of 50 Hour Slam and Purple Crayon Pictures, DaShawn Bedford of CMTV and Melissa Huggins of Spokane Arts got together and cooked up something fun where filmmakers and musicians could collaborate in a new way. Here’s how it works.
All of this comes from an effort to see more collaboration between different art mediums in Spokane. And to see more musicians creating visual representation of their work.
In the spring, submissions open for musicians and filmmakers. We gather entries, select an even number of folks and pair up teams randomly. They meet at a kickoff event, pick a song and get to work creating a brand new music video. The groups get two weeks to create their video. At the awards finale the videos are screened live for the audience and a panel of judges. Critique is given in real time and a winner is chosen. The winner receives a cash prize of $500 sponsored by Global Credit Union.

Year two is underway with the finale coming up in just over a week. I can’t wait to see what everyone has made. Tickets are just $5 to attend the screening at The Bartlett. TICKET LINK
Special shout out to everyone who has worked super hard to put this event on, especially Melissa, Juan and DeShawn. And for Global always willing to jump in and support a new effort in the art scene. Follow MUSIC VIDEO JAMS on facebook to stay in the loop!
